I walked into a pub for a fill

Sign said Shamrock:

Come in if you will

There she was just standing alone

Fairest hair

And her eyes were so blue

Ruby lips

That had tossed back a few

But something about her said

Leave me alone

Then she walked up

And leaned on the bar

Glanced over at me

And, raising her jar,

Take Me Home

Ah but somewhere along the way

Despite my Jesus I started to stray

Now I want Him

To come take me home

"Wanted to be a mother

And make a good wife

But he left me

The love of my life

Took up with another

And left me alone

It was then that I started to sink

Lost my career and dove into drink

Ah Sweet Jesus

I wanna come home

"I would love to change my life

But I don’t have the will to fight

And I must reap what I have sown

I know, I know"

She stopped talking

And started to cry

I took her arm

And led her outside

And there she fell to her knees

Said, "Hey there Mister

I’m good for a loan"

I bought her a beer

Then two, then three

After the fourth one

She turned to me

Said, "I’m so tired"

Then she let out a groan

Said, "I’ve been a dancer

All of my life

Made good bread

And the fellas were nice

Can’t remember

Just when it went wrong

With a moan

I shut my eyes because of the light

That came from nowhere

Out of the night

And when I could see again

She was gone
