Steve Smith and Cristi Owens (Arley’s wife) formed a restaurant partnership in early 2005 and Arley gave them permission to use the name of his ranch for their new business. On May 5, 2005 Shorty Mae’s opened for business in Midland Park Mall in Midland, Texas. They closed that restaurant a few years later but kept their DBA and connected Shorty Mae Productions, Arley's music publisher, with Ingram's Lightning Source to publish his books.

Steve and Cristi remained partners in Shorty Mae’s until the Lord called Steve Home in October of 2019. They did a lot of behind the scenes work for Torn Page and Arley’s novels—Cristi has done the artwork for several of the book covers. Steve’s ex-wife, but still very close friend, Sue Smith (Cristi’s aunt) labors as Arley’s proof reader, making book marks, and putting the CD covers together. The group depended on the three of them to speak their minds about the music and offer their constructive criticisms as no band can be totally objective about what comes out of those studio speakers. Cristi and Sue still do that, and Steve's presence will always be felt by everyone associated with Torn Page.

The business end is now handled by Shorty Mae Enterprises LLC.

Shorty Mae Productions is a member of ASCAP and IBPA.
